Aroha in my Whanau

I love my family because they love me. They always hug me before school. I have a Mum who works hard and a Dad who looks after us at home. My siblings look out for me the most because my dad’s often looking after my nana because she’s sick, but he is still part of our family.

I know my family loves me because I always help them with everything they do, especially at night when I clean everything by myself (sometimes my siblings help me.)

My favourite whanau saying is: “I love my family because they love me.”

My favourite aroha symbol is:

Water Awareness

 On the 8th of June it was the first day of swimming and we were all so excited to be going on a bus to the CLM pools in Morrin Rd. We only went for ten days, but that was enough because we got really tired after all that swimming. 

We had to leave our swimming stuff at school so we could change quickly when we got back after our lessons. The best part of the lessons was when we jumped into the pool at the end to see who could make the biggest splash.

 What I learned at water awareness was how to save myself if I fell into deep water. We did one exercise like when we fell out of a boat our shouting for ''help'' while were floating. And also we learned how to use the boards and kick our legs fast under the water. 

The next day which was Thursday was a fun day because they let us go on the boat and jump over on our backs. The next thing we did was we lie on our backs and shout for help so that a helicopter could see us and rescue us. I learned a lot and I am not so nervous anymore.

Revealing my feelings through Art

A few weeks ago I created a self portrait. The first thing I had to do was draw lines on my face so  we knew where to put my nose, eyes, ears and mouth. The hardest part for me was to create hair because I have long plaits. 

I also did a background with a white wax crayon. With the wax crayon I had to draw lines showing how I feel at different times. When I did my background I had no space to do all my other lines. The exciting part was when I painted it because the blue dye made the lines easy to see.

We also wrote blurbs to go underneath our self portraits and my favourite one is ''when I feel calm, I am quiet and relaxed.''

Malo Lelei.  My name is Feao Moeata Makalio. I'm a Tongan, and I go to St Patrick's School. My friends are Frances, Sulia and Laura. I'm a year 5 student. I am 9 years old, and I have 5 brothers and 4 sisters. I live with my Mum, Dad and my brothers and sisters. My favorite hobby is to eat healthy, sleep and play outside. My favorite subject is Maths because I like learning my times tables. My favorite animal is a Dog. My goals for 2021 are to keep making good friends,doing work,laughing and listening to people.

Chicks in Room 6

Last Tuesday Jo from Living Eggs brought us an incubator, brooder and eleven eggs. We were going to watch the eggs hatch. When they hatched we got to hold them. They felt soft and comfy, and we were the lucky classroom because we had the chicks with us all the time. 

We had eleven chicks in Room 6 for two weeks. There were nine boys and only two girls. Someone called one of the boys Stella! When the chicks were growing we were holding them but when some people held them too long, they wanted to go back to the brooder. They got tired quickly. I liked to hold them because they were soft and cute but they got very noisy when they got bigger. I was brave because I helped the little kids hold the chicks when they came to our room. 

Today the Rm 2  came and they brought their iPad to take pictures. Ethan and I took out the chicks and gave them to some of the Rm 2 children to hold. Tomorrow the chicks are going back to the farm to visit their  mum and dad and maybe their other brothers or sisters. Some of the class are crying and sad because they are going to miss them so much.

It was so sad but I hope there are going to be some more chicks coming. I am trying to be brave

but the chicks have gone.

My Colouring Art

    

 This colouring is very easy but it takes a long time to colour in. I chose this because I like the picture on the wall and the bowl in the front on the table. The colours I chose are different to the ones in the original. In the front they look round like rocks but I think they are coconuts.

I chose this photo  because it's so easy to   colour in. I don't want to colour a hard one because I get to tired if I colour to much. I love colouring this picture because it looks beautiful and I like the people that draw it, It's good art working.

Receiving my new Dictionary

Yesterday there were two visitors who came to Room 6. They were two ladies called Mrs Kearns and her friend, Carol. They gave all the year 4's a new dictionary. I think there are about 1000 new words in it. There were 20,000 children from New Zealand, Tonga and Samoa who received one of these dictionaries from Pakuranga Rotary Club, I am going to look after mine forever.

The Best Day of My Life.

The best day of my life was when my brothers and sisters and I went to the park in Glendowie. We took some food to eat. We ate fish and chips with a soda.

I played on the playground. I was very tired after one hour because I was running so fast. After that it was getting dark because we were at the park for a long time. We decided to go home.

 When we went home I was watching a movie with my brothers and sisters. We ate some popcorn. It was very tasty. After the movie I went to bed and I remember this day as the best I can remember for a long time.

My Whakapapa Story.

I drew my Grandpa because he passed away in 2004 but my nana is still alive. My dad is with my grandma. This is my uncle who went to live in America, and my aunty who is in Hamilton. My cousin is with my aunty. She looks after her in Hamilton. My dad's aunty that's also in the picture and my dad's cousin is there too. I drew him yellow because he died after dad's aunty, and the blue koru is my dad's sister who died the same year as my dad's brother. I have a big family and we all look after one another.

My Trip To The Beach

Learning goal: We are learning to write a descriptive text.
Success criteria: We can do this when We can describe  using our five senses.

In the weekend my family and I went to the beach.
I went for a swim because it was hot. The water was warm. The sand was hot. The waves splashed on the sand.  I picked up a jelly fish and it was slimy in my hands. We had delicious lunch. The sausages were tasted like pork.

Describe Popcorn

I love popcorn. It tastes buttery and salty. It smells delicious and buttery. It looks white and yellow. When I eat warm popcorn it crunches in my mouth like drie leaves.

Trip To The Movie

During the holidays I went to the movies with my family.
We watched a cartoon movie. I like that movie because the girl in the movie is pretty. My favourite movie is Ariel the mermaid.
